Eco-friendly sewing school
Can you describe your business and its mission?
Le bac rose is an eco-friendly sewing school. We offer sewing, knitting and crochet classes to young people and adults, beginners and intermediates. Participants learn to make their projects a reality in our workshop with its zen and refined decor. Because fabrics and clothes cannot be composted (brown bin) or recycled (blue bin), Le bac rose was created to give fabrics a second life through sewing!
How many employees do you have?
We have six (6) employees.
Can you summarize the history of your business for us?
Initially, Christine, the founder, offered sewing workshops on the road and traveled all over the Province of Quebec with her cart full of sewing machines. After offering her first sewing camp in the summer of 2022, she decided to open her own sewing school in Beloeil, in a space she shares with painting classes. A year later, thanks to a loyal clientele, she moved Le bac rose to Mont-Saint-Hilaire in its current location.
What are you most proud of accomplishing as a business?
Students love coming to the Bac rose! The mountain view, the zen atmosphere, the fully equipped workshop with its sewing machines and accessories are very much appreciated by our customers. It is a place that takes you out of the routine and allows you to make your dreams come true!
What are the main challenges you face as a business?
Visibility is a big challenge. The sewing school is still very little known in the region.
Does your business have environmental and/or social implications?
We encourage our students to repair and repurpose their clothes. We provide them with scraps and rolls of fabric recovered from Quebec fashion designers. Every week, we welcome an extracurricular group from the nearby high school to introduce them to sewing.
What are the next steps or projects for your business?
We are developing a service offering for entrepreneurs wishing to start their first clothing collection. We have a real ambition to improve the practices of the fashion industry in Quebec, towards a more sustainable fashion.
Can you tell us what you appreciate about BTB?
I really appreciate BTB’s openness and flexibility. I felt welcomed when I arrived and well supported when setting up my premises.
