The Val-Mont in Halles St-Jean is primarily a fruit and vegetable grocery store offering a generous variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as grocery products, at affordable prices.

How many employees do you have?

At Groupe Épicia, we have almost 500 employees in total. At the St-Jean location, we have around 15.

Can you summarize the history of your business for us?

The Val-Mont in Halles St-Jean is the 12th location of Groupe Épicia, which also includes the Marché Végétarien banners in the Eastern Townships and Trois-Rivières, the Val-Mont and Jardin du Mont stores in Granby. True to its mission, the Group is committed to providing its customers with an abundant and diversified offering of fresh products of the highest quality.

What are you most proud of accomplishing as a business?

Successfully holding our own in a market dominated by large grocery chains with more buying power than us.

What are the main challenges you face as a business?

Fierce competition and rising prices from our suppliers.

Does your business have environmental and/or social implications?

We’re particularly committed to fighting malnutrition and promoting healthy eating in the neighbourhoods surrounding our stores.

What are the next steps or projects for your business?

We have plans to renovate some of our locations and to open a new Val-Mont store next year.
